Meet Adam Smith
I would like to start by saying how blessed & thankful I am to represent Smiths Lube & all of our clients ! My name is Adam Smith , owner & operator. I was born & raised here in Lafayette, Louisiana. As a kid I always found myself taking things apart just to put them back together to see if they would work the same. My dad would often complain that he couldn’t find certain tools in the shop because I had them all over the place.
I attended & graduated from Acadiana High School in 2005. At the same time, I attended the career center for automobile technician & passed as first place ASE Certified Technician in our class. I then joined Louisiana Technical College where I mastered in Diesel Technology.
After being in school for 2 years I worked at Louisiana Crane and Construction as a technician getting hands on training. We worked on anything from $100 lawn mowers to multi-million dollar cranes. This turned into a 12 year career for me. In my later years of being a technician at La Crane & Construction, I found myself in a dark place and felt stuck as if that was all life had to offer me. I decided then, that it was time to start my own path and satisfy the entrepreneur in me so I began looking for franchise opportunities. I found the cost of franchising to be way more than I could afford. It became discouraging until one day my wife Courtney & friend Josh said, “why don’t you work for yourself !? You have drive , knowledge & motivation.” I contemplated for a long time to figure what that looked like.
Shortly after that conversation, that will forever be my turning point, I heard from a former co-worker Kenny that had quit to go run a crane at a refinery being built making a large sum of money.
They called me to go run a crane or forklift for double what I was already making per hour & per-Diem. I had never been presented with such a valuable financial opportunity so I took the leap of faith and went to work! I started to set aside the cash I made there to buy a work truck and start an LLC. I found myself running a crane for 12 hours on night shift and trying to make the most of my days. While every other operator was asleep, I was in my crane reading business books highlighting the takeaways & noting them down. When the night shift was over & the day shift came on, I took to the phones and called possible clients & obtained work until I had a good book of business. It quickly got to the point that I was turning down business every day. I stayed faithful to the process waiting on God to tell me it was time to step out.
I met a man selling a 1984 c1500 mechanic truck with a red bench seat with no a/c asking $1,600. The gentleman looking to sell the truck had taken in a granddaughter and so we agreed that we each needed the other’s help. We were able to negotiate a final price of $1,200 which left me with enough savings to make the repairs needed. In that moment. The Lord spoke to me & said bless them. I knew that I had to be obedient, so I gave them the full asking price of $1,600. One year later I sold that truck for $3,000 dollars!! God is good!!
Every year I just kept giving more than I received and stayed faithful and The Lord just keeps blessing us! It’s going on 6 years now and god has been very faithful to me & blessed me tremendously through out this journey. It was hard but well worth it.
